The Vincent Strudwick Contemplative Garden
A new garden, dedicated to the memory of our friend, designed for the benefit of our community.
A place for reflection, connection, and quiet inspiration
Kellogg College seeks to honour the life and legacy of Canon Vincent Strudwick through the creation of a dedicated Contemplative Garden — a lasting tribute to a cherished member of our community who played a key role in shaping the welcoming and inclusive ethos we enjoy today.
As a passionate educator and theologian, Vincent had increasingly expressed his desire and wish for a quiet retreat where College members could pause, reflect, and find tranquillity. The College seeks to honour his legacy of friendship, support and inclusivity by creating a contemplative garden at the heart of our Banbury Road site.
The Vincent Strudwick Contemplative Garden will be a beautifully planted area designed to offer calm and respite amid the pressures of academic and professional life. Enclosed by trees and gently curved pathways, and bordered by seasonal flowers and soft grasses, the garden will offer welcoming spaces to sit, reflect, or simply enjoy a moment of stillness. Whether used for solitary thought, quiet conversation, or informal gatherings, the garden will encourage the kind of thoughtful presence that Vincent so deeply valued.
We invite friends, fellows, alumni, and supporters of the College to help us bring this vision to life. With your support, we can create a space that not only celebrates Vincent’s memory but also enhances the wellbeing and connectedness of our whole community — now and for generations to come.
If you wish to be part of bringing this vision to fruition, please consider making a donation today. If you would like to find out more about how else you could help, please contact the College President, Professor Jonathan Michie.
